Los Angeles-based French shop owner Thierry Guetta has come up with the idea that he wants to film street artists in their work. He tells them that he makes a documentary, though he does not intend to cut the material into a coherent film. Unnoticed by this fact, many street artists from around the world agree to join. Thierry even goes to work by helping them to create art. One of the participating artists is the camera-shy Briton Banksy, who refuses to be shown on screen unless he's darkened. Banksy convinces Thierry to use the footage for a movie. With Thierry, Banksy comes to the realization that Thierry is a lousy filmmaker, but he's an interesting figure in a strange but engaging way. So Banksy decides to use the material and add extra material to make his own film about Thierry's journey in this project. Since Thierry has spent so much time in the street art process, Banksy also convinces Thierry to become a street artist himself. Thierry reinvents himself as street artist M. B. W., an abbreviation for Mr. Brainwash. Banksy may regret this proposal in the end.
