30-year-old Bostonian Ally Darling believes she is at a crossroads of her life after being fired from her marketing job, as well as the career she ultimately hates. The area in which she is interested in something is her less successful search for a husband, partly because of the upcoming wedding of her younger sister Daisy, partly because of an article in the magazine Marie Claire, in which she reads about the number of sexual partners, you've ever had and the probability of marriage. Ally had nineteen sex partners, almost twice the national average. Since the article states that the likelihood of ever finding a husband is zero, and Daisy's fiancée Eddie is a man Daisy has broken up with before, Ally concludes that this is not the case, a statistical one Zero means that one of her ex-men is the man she should marry. The problem she faces is that, besides what she knows she does not want, she has no idea where the others are eighteen. The one she thinks she wants to do is her high school friend Jake Adams, who is perhaps the hardest to find, and as such she's trying to find the rest. Unaware of what to do, she asks Colin Shea, a musician who lives opposite her home, to claim he is from a family of police officers trained in investigations. Colin is a more extreme and open version of Ally as he stands one night after the other. He never gets the nerve to tell his sex partners after he plans to never see her again, preferring to hide until they leave his apartment. As such, Ally's pay should allow him to hide in her apartment every morning until his dates leave. While Colin continues his largely successful search for the exes, with Jake in fact being elusive, Ally judges the men one after another. However, it may be that in these evaluations she has not come to the realization that in the course of her love life she has always tried to adapt to what her former boyfriend wanted rather than to remain true to herself as a person, and that one with whom she is supposed to be together is the one who really knows and accepts her as she is.
