The wealthy Ambersons have been the leading family of their Central American city since 1873. You live in the most magnificent villa in the center of the residential area of the city. Most city dwellers really want to be like the Ambersons, and since this is unlikely to be the case, they use the Ambersons as the focal point of their gossip. This gossip is mainly about the beautiful Isabel Amberson: her love commercial with the passionate Eugene Morgan, whom she really loves; an incident by Eugene that causes Isabel to decide instead to marry the sensible businessman Wilbur Minafer, a man to whom she is loyal but whom she does not really love; and that Isabel will put all her love upon her and Wilbur's children if there is no love for Wilbur. This prognosis is only partially correct since Isabel and Wilbur have only one child, George Minafer. The unconditional love that Isabel has for George is akin to pampering George, which in turn means George has a full sense of privilege and superiority that he wears until adulthood. The Minafer House is the Amberson mansion where they live with surviving members of the Amberson family as well as Wilbur's simple sister, Fanny Minafer. Georges return home during a college break coincides with the return of Eugene, who left the city twenty years ago after Isabel's marriage. Eugene is now a widower with an adult daughter Lucy Morgan, who turns her head on most of the young men she meets. Eugene is an inventor whose latest invention, which is largely considered a novelty by traditionalists, is a horse-drawn car, d. H. An automobile. Eugene predicts that the car will eventually change the face of life as they know it. At first glance, George falls in love with Lucy, but does not like Eugene immediately because Eugene pays attention to his mother. George knows nothing about the past between Eugene and his mother and hides his hostility to Eugene despite his feelings for Lucy. What George can see is that Fanny hopes Eugene will woo her because she has secretly fallen in love with him over the years. George's plan for his life with Lucy is not to get a job, but to live on Amberson's fortune as the sole heir of the family, to channel some of that money into philanthropy, but largely to use it to play the leading citizen as is his custom. What happens to this collective group depends largely on the impact that Eugene's invention has on society, and Georges feeling that nothing will change just because he says that's not the case.
