The couple Grif and Jenny Henderson from New Rochelle, New York, like to get to know each other again in the biblical sense after his return from business trips. He is a magazine photographer. One thing they disagree about is the maturity of their fifteen-year-old son, Davey Henderson, who wants to spend a month in Europe after his girlfriend Linda "Bootsie" Wax - the daughter of Grif's boss Haskell Wax - who gets on one Be student tour only for girls. While Grif sees the journey for Davey as a transition to masculinity and lets him go, Jenny still sees Davey only as her baby. Although Grif does not like it, he has no choice but to agree with what Jenny and Bootsie's mother Vera Wax have come to terms with as a compromise: that Grif covers the tour photographically for the magazine, with Davey as an assistant. On a tight budget, Grif allowed Jenny to come along. She will rent a house on the French Riviera throughout the tour. The house where the family gathers for another month after completing the tour. All three will join the tour directly from New York, which includes a ten-day transatlantic cruise before Grif and Davey break up with Jenny in Paris for the month. Davey and Bootsie will test if they really believe in the concept of free love for flower children, as Grif allegedly acts as a supervisor for his son. After being separated for a month, Grif and Jenny will also test the strength of their marriage when possible European temptations crop up, and as Grif, who wishes his wife, he wants the rest of the world to consider her only as a woman middle-aged looks housewife. The temptations for Grif and Jenny are Nancy Leigh, the nubile young leader of the student group, and the polite Parisian lawyer Phillipe Maspere, who is as well-known for his femininity as for his ability as a lawyer.
