In Moscow, the former conductor of the Bolshoi orchestra Andrey Simonovich Filipov is currently the janitor of the theater. Andrej felt disgraced thirty years ago because he had protected the Jewish musicians and was no longer allowed to conduct an orchestra. One night, Andrey reads a fax he has just received, while he cleans the office of the director of Bolshoi, Leonid Vinichenko, and hides the document. He learns that the Châtelet Theater in Paris has just invited the Bolschoi Orchestra to give a concert in Paris within two weeks. Andrey shows his friend and musician Aleksandr 'Sasha' Abramovich Grosman the fax that drives an ambulance, and decides to reunite fifty-five former Bolshoi musicians to travel to Paris and the violin concerto in D major op. 35, by Pjotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. He invites the communist leader and former KGB Ivan Gavrilov to lead the orchestra, and asks the soloist of the well-known musician Anne-Marie Jacquet to stay in Paris for three days. When they arrive in Paris, Andrej meets Anne-Marie as the musicians roam the city, celebrating and collecting money. The unprofessionalism of Russian musicians forces Anne-Marie to break off the concert; but Sasha persuades her to come to the theater. Meanwhile, Andrej hurts the incident with the violinist Lea thirty years ago and hides a secret from Anne-Marie. What is the connection between Andrej and Anne-Marie?
