Cathy Jamison is a high school teacher in a suburb of Minneapolis, wife and mother with less than a perfect life, though it may seem so to much of the outside world. Her life is severely shocked if she is diagnosed with melanoma. This is the first message when she is in advanced stage IV. This means that if you do not undergo any extreme or radical interventions, you will most likely contract it within a short time. Cathy has a variety of emotions related to the diagnosis, including dealing with the diagnosis of family, friends, and people who are otherwise close to her. These people are: Paul Jamison, her college husband, who is often just another big kid in their relationship while Cathy played the responsible adult; Adam Jamison, Cathy and Paul's teenage son, who has typical problems of being a teenager and an only child; Sean Tolkey, Cathy's anti-establishment brother who decides to be homeless to live off the mains and abhors what he views as Cathy's bourgeois suburban lifestyle; her students, like Andrea Jackson, who speaks openly on all issues, including her weight problem and her African-American background; and her older, seemingly anxious, longtime neighbor, whom Cathy, despite her closeness, has not tried to know for years.
