This is an epochal film shot during the Ming Dynasty in the desert region of China. Tsao Siu-yan is a power-mad eunuch who rules his sector in China as if he were the emperor and not just an official. He is the leader of the reckless security authority of the Emperor, known as the Eastern Depot (東 東 Dong Chang). He has built an elite army of experienced archers and riders who receive intense training and powerful weapons. When elements of his government act against him and his despotic rule, Tsao turns out ruthless. One such conspirator is Defense Minister Yang Yu-xuan, who is executed together with his family. Tsao spares two of the younger children and instead condemns them to exile to lure Yang's subordinate General Chow Wai-on into a trap. The children are accompanied by a few rather poor Eastern factory soldiers and sent to the desert. Rebels, led by Chow's lover Yau Mo-yan, come to liberate them, but are attacked by East Factory troops. Tsao later stops the attack, realizing that Chow is not among the fighters, and instead orders his troops to track them to find out where they will meet with Chow. The rebels and the children then head to the Dragon Gate Pass, where they cross the border. You will arrive at the Dragon Gate Inn, a raiders' rendezvous. The landlady, the lively Jade, runs a sideline in which she seduces and murders her guests. Jade also keeps the money the customer has and then throws it into the kitchen to serve as meat in bread rolls. The dissection is made by her cook Dao, an expert who stripped meat to the bone. Mo-Yan and her followers arrive at the inn. She is disguised as a man, but Jade is not fooled and claims that only a woman would overtake her without even looking at it. That night, she confronts Mo-yan, and the two engage in a lively acrobatic battle in which both women try to stay dressed while taking off the other. Rebel leader Chow arrives and reunites with Mo-yan. They plan to cross the border with the children, but the bad weather delays their departure. In addition, Jade takes a liking to Chow and decides to win it over, and also thinks of the reward offered to him for his capture. Things get even more complicated when East Factory officials, led by Cha, arrive at the inn as merchants. The scene is for a cruel battle between the two sides, where Jade tries to keep the peace and achieve all the financial benefits or else that she can get out of it. In the meantime, most of the East Factory troops, led by eunuch Tsao, are on their way to the inn. Like most thieves, Chow believes the inn has a secret passage through which his comrades can escape. Jade agrees to show them the passage when Chow sleeps with her. He agrees when they marry first. Jade, a practical girl, is quite surprised that she has to marry for a one-night stand, but she continues, with Cha hosting the wedding. Heartbreaking Mo-Yan drowns her worries with alcohol. The growing tension inside breaks out into open fighting as Cha and his men realize that the rebels want to use the secret passage to escape. The ensuing battle leads to the death of all Dong Chang in the inn and most of the rebels and robbers. Mo-yan himself is seriously injured. Tsao and his army arrive and besiege the inn. Inside, there are only a handful of survivors: Jade, Chow, Mo-yan, Dao the cook and the kids. They flee through the passage, but a loose band gives them away and Tsao sets out to find himself. A vicious single battle in the middle of a desert storm, while Tsao fights Jade, Chow and Mo-yan. Mo-yan is weakened by her wounds and dies in quicksand. Just as Tsao wants to do Jade and Chow, Dao shows up suddenly and picks him up with his carving knife. He carves away at Tsao, leaving the warlord behind with a skeletal arm and a leg. Chow moves in for the kill and Tsao is done. Chow and the kids are on their way to the border. When Jade and Dao realize how much Chow meant to them, they follow Chow after they burn down the infamous inn.
